As a business leader, I’ve experienced firsthand the complexity of living out my faith while trying to run a business. I wonder if it becomes more complex because we make it so. Instead of following what God says, we rationalize and soften the impact of his teaching, because we want to hold on to some things and maintain control. We want to have it both ways—to follow God and to live for the world at the same time.
Running a business is no easy task. It requires wisdom, discernment, courage, a risk-taking attitude, and when the teachings of Jesus seem to compromise those things (from our perspective), it puts us in a real predicament. How can we build profitable businesses that provide for ourselves and our employees if we’re radically sold-out to the Gospel? Is it even possible?
Each chapter of the book shares a captivating story that sets up "what if" questions I have wrestled with on this journey. Some I have answered and faithfully applied, others I am still contemplating and searching for what it should look like. I pray you will let them challenge, invigorate, and open your eyes to the possibilities.
Don’t shy away from the discomfort because maybe, just maybe, God is calling you to live your life to the fullest in radical obedience to Jesus Christ wherever you are, wherever he sends you, and with whatever you are doing.
At the end of each chapter, I’ve provided a few questions for you to prayerfully consider. Let the Lord work deeply in your heart and mind as you contemplate your answers. Let Him test, and even threaten, your current paradigm, because He may have something far greater in mind for you than the life you’ve built for yourself.
